“Mural Painters is a portrait of two banner painters repairing antique political (albeit-beautiful turn of the century) banners kept in the achieves of the Trades Hall, Melbourne. I thought the artists looked somewhat like ballet dancers from contemporary theatre.” Tony Irving
Tony Irving studied at the National Gallery School (now VCA), RMIT, Swinburne and Ruskin College, Oxford. He has been exhibiting his sensitive realist artworks regularly since the mid 1960's. In 1966 he won the prestigious National Gallery of Victoria’s John McCaughey Prize. His works are held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria and several regional galleries.
