This painting is the study for a major work The Homecoming illustrated (P122) in his major monograph published in 2012 - Stewart MacFarlane Paintings by Nicholas Jose and Timothy Morrell. This work, like many of his strongest works is a nocturne in which artificial light intervenes. His world is always a place of disquiet where danger and disappointment threaten…with the path to safety (or not) being a central theme.
