Ralph Malcolm Warner was born in Geelong, Victoria. He studied commercial art at Geelong, Melbourne and Sydney Technical schools and began his career in 1926, working as an advertising artist and illustrator. He also produced watercolours and etchings, which he exhibited at commercial galleries in Melbourne. He was appointed an official war artist during WW II and served in New Guinea and Canada. He was President of the Victorian Artists Society from 1950-58. He won numerous prizes for his watercolours including the Minnie Crouch Prize. His work is represented in the collections of the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, The National Gallery of Victoria, the Geelong Gallery, the Art Gallery of W.A., the Bendigo and Ballarat Art Galleries.
