Jeffrey Bren was born in Ballarat. He trained at the National Gallery School from 1962-65 under John Brack receiving the Myer Foundation Scholarship in 1963. In 1967 he held his first solo exhibition at Tolano Galleries, Melbourne. In 1971 he won the Keith and Elizabeth Murdoch Travelling Scholarship which enabled him to paint for two years in Paris. Other awards bestowed upon the artist include the Georges Invitation Art Prize 1970, the Crouch Prize 1974, the Century Exhibition Art Prize 1980 and the Beaumaris Art Prize 1983.
Bren is represented in collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Shepperton Fine Art Gallery the Peninsula Art Centre at Mornington and Artbank.
