Brian Seidel was born in Adelaide and studied at the South Australian School of Art from 1948 to 1953; at the University of Iowa, USA in 1961 and at the Slade School, London from 1961 to 1963.
He returned to Adelaide in 1963 where he taught printmaking at the South Australian School of Art from 1964 to 1966. During this time, he was art critic for Adelaide News from 1963 to 1966. From 1968 to 1970 he was Head of the Art Department at the Bedford Park Teachers College, South Australia. From 1971 to 1981 he was Head of the School of Art and Design, Preston Institute of Technology, Victoria.
From 1964 to 1992, Seidel held around 25 solo exhibitions.
Seidel’s work is represented across Australian collections, most notably at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Australia. He has also featured internationally at the Harold E. Mertz Collection of Australian Art, University of Texas, USA.
